Mixed Morph

A mixed morph eastern rat snake is a captive Pantherophis alleghaniensis that carries or displays more than one color or pattern influence, rather than a single named morph. The species is a nonvenomous constrictor from eastern North America, with wild snakes ranging from gray or patterned juveniles to dark, nearly black adults in much of the range. Mixed morph animals may show black, gray, orange, yellow, or white areas depending on ancestry, selection, and age.

Care does not differ much from other eastern rat snakes, but clear parentage notes matter for breeders who want to avoid mislabeling locality or morph lines. These snakes need a secure, well-ventilated enclosure with climbing structure, hides, and a temperature gradient, and most feed readily on appropriately sized rodents. Captive-bred animals are strongly preferred over wild-caught snakes, which may carry parasites, refuse food, or be subject to local collection rules.

Colors: Black, Gray, Orange, White, Yellow
