Eastern Garden Lizard
Calotes versicolor
The eastern garden lizard is a diurnal, egg-laying agamid of South and Southeast Asia, often seen on shrubs, fences and tree trunks. It has a pointed head, a short crest of neck spines and a long slender tail; breeding males may show a red head and throat with darker patches.
Hobby keepers provide secure climbing branches, shelter, insect prey and controlled warmth and lighting. The trade name bloodsucker refers to coloration, not its diet. Recent splits make locality and scientific identification useful when distinguishing it from related Calotes.
