Unknown Breed
Unknown breed diamond dove is best understood as a diamond dove of unknown color variety or lineage. The species, Geopelia cuneata, is a small Australian ground-feeding dove recognized by its spotted wings, slim tail, and soft call. In aviculture, labels such as silver, cinnamon, pied, white, albino, blond, orange, and wild type describe mutations or color varieties rather than true breeds. An unknown bird may be a juvenile, a rescue, or simply a dove whose breeder did not provide background information.
Care and assessment should focus on species needs. Diamond doves are gentle but active, so cramped decorative cages are a poor fit; a longer cage or planted aviary lets them walk, fly short distances, and choose safe perches. Provide a small-seed diet, fresh greens, calcium, clean water, and a covered nest if breeding is allowed. Buyers should ask about age, sexing confidence, and past pairings, since some color mutations make visual sexing less reliable and unrecorded birds may carry hidden recessive traits.
