Desert Spiny Lizard
Sceloporus magister
The desert spiny lizard is an egg-laying lizard of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. Its robust body carries strongly keeled scales, dark shoulder markings and a long tapering tail; adult males may show blue throat and belly patches. Hobby and institutional keepers provide stable rocky or woody basking surfaces, retreats, insect prey and a controlled light and temperature gradient. It is Sceloporus magister, distinct from the live-bearing blue and green spiny lizards in the same genus, so reproductive records should not be copied between species.
