Desert Iguana
Dipsosaurus dorsalis
The desert iguana is a pale, egg-laying iguana of the Mojave and Sonoran deserts of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. A small head, long tail and fine gray-brown netlike pattern differ from the heavy chuckwalla and spiny-tailed iguanas. It is kept by experienced desert-lizard enthusiasts in enclosures with digging space, secure shelters and a carefully controlled basking and light gradient.
Its diet is largely vegetation. Nesting substrate and room to move are important for this active terrestrial species.
