Philippine Origin
Philippine origin cynomolgus macaques are long-tailed macaques, Macaca fascicularis, with ancestry from the Philippines or colonies founded from Philippine animals. Some references discuss Philippine populations as regionally distinct within the wider species complex, but in managed settings the label usually marks geographic provenance rather than a breed. They have the typical wild-type macaque appearance: a slender body, long tail, expressive face, and brownish coat, with local variation in size and genetics.
Facilities use Philippine origin information when planning research cohorts, breeding groups, or colony comparisons, because origin can affect genetic background, immune markers, growth patterns, and pathogen exposure history. These primates require professional care under regulation, including quarantine, health surveillance, social management, enrichment, and experienced handling. They should not be acquired for private ownership. Clear source documentation helps avoid mixing animals of uncertain background and supports responsible decisions in research, zoo placement, or sanctuary care.
