Cuban Brown Anole
Anolis sagrei
The Cuban brown anole is a small, egg-laying anole native to Cuba and the Bahamas and introduced to many warm regions. Brown mottling, a pale back pattern and the male's orange-red throat fan with a pale border distinguish it from a green anole. Hobby keepers provide branches, leafy retreats, suitable lighting and a temperature gradient in a tightly secured enclosure.
It hunts small invertebrates and lays individual eggs in sheltered substrate. Its familiar brown-anole name is useful, but scientific identification keeps it separate from other drab Anolis.
