Common Giant Gecko
Chondrodactylus angulifer
The common giant gecko is a ground-dwelling, egg-laying gecko from the dry landscapes of southern Africa. Its stout body, broad head, bumpy skin and thick tapering tail distinguish it from slender wall geckos; adults have variable brown and pale markings. Specialist breeders use digging substrate, stable shelters and a controlled temperature gradient, often housing animals separately to protect fragile eggs.
It feeds on insects. Despite its size, it is a terrestrial desert gecko and does not need a tall, tropical climbing enclosure.
