Common Flat-Tail Gecko
Uroplatus fimbriatus
The common flat-tail gecko is a large, nocturnal leaf-tailed gecko from Madagascar's forests. Mottled barklike skin, a flattened tail and fringes along its body camouflage it on trunks; its eyes have vertical pupils. Specialist keepers house it among substantial branches and sheltered foliage, with humidity, airflow and temperature control suited to a forest animal.
It eats invertebrates and lays eggs. This is Uroplatus fimbriatus, distinct from Henkel's and mossy leaf-tailed geckos. Reliable identification and captive-origin records are valuable.
