Common Agama

Agama agama

The common agama is a diurnal, egg-laying lizard from West and Central Africa, often seen on exposed rocks, walls and tree trunks. Breeding males show a bright orange or red head against a dark blue body, while females and less dominant males are much duller. It appears in hobby collections, where secure climbing and basking surfaces, retreats and a controlled heat and light gradient support its active lifestyle.

It takes insects and other small foods. The familiar rainbow-lizard name should not imply that all African Agama are this species.
