Collared Lizard
Crotaphytus collaris
The collared lizard is an active, egg-laying lizard of rocky landscapes in the central and southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Two dark neck collars, a broad head, strong hind legs and a long tail identify it; adult males may have blue-green bodies and yellow heads. Experienced keepers provide room to run, stable rocks, shelter and a strong basking and light gradient. Its diet includes insects and other small animals. It is distinct from the more brown and pale-speckled Mojave black-collared lizard.
