Chinese Leopard Snake
Elaphe bimaculata
The Chinese leopard snake is an egg-laying ratsnake from central and eastern China. Adults can have paired rows of dark or reddish blotches, or a striped pattern, on a gray-brown ground. It is maintained by specialist hobby collections. Secure housing needs floor space, concealed retreats, some climbing structure and a controlled thermal gradient. It is distinct from the steppe rat snake Elaphe dione, with which it has sometimes been confused in trade.
