Carpet Chameleon
Furcifer lateralis
The carpet chameleon is a small, egg-laying chameleon of central Madagascar. Its green body often shows a pale lateral stripe and contrasting round or oval side markings; females can display especially elaborate colors. Specialist breeders provide an individually managed, planted climbing enclosure with ventilation, drinking droplets and a controlled light and heat gradient.
Mature females need suitable egg-laying substrate. Furcifer major and Furcifer viridis are separate species, so older accounts that apply carpet chameleon broadly should not determine an animal's identity.
