The Cape Parrot (Poicephalus robustus) is a striking and rare species of parrot endemic to South Africa. Known for its vibrant plumage, the Cape Parrot displays a predominantly bright green body with a distinctive orange forehead and neck, which contrasts beautifully with its dark bronze-green wings and back. Juveniles can be identified by the paler coloration of their feathers. Typically inhabiting the forested regions of Eastern and Southern South Africa, particularly in the lush Afromontane forests, these parrots are highly reliant on mature yellowwood trees for both food and nesting sites.

Cape Parrots are medium-sized, measuring about 11 to 13 inches in length, with a robust beak well-adapted for cracking nuts and consuming seeds, fruits, and berries. These parrots are distinguished by their unique social behavior, often seen in small, close-knit groups, and they communicate through a series of loud, distinctive calls. Regrettably, the Cape Parrot is listed as vulnerable due to habitat loss and fragmentation, disease, and illegal capture for the pet trade, prompting conservation efforts that focus on habitat restoration and protection.
