Canada Lynx

Lynx canadensis

The Canada Lynx (Lynx canadensis) is a medium-sized wild feline native to the boreal forests of North America. This solitary predator is well-adapted to cold environments, thanks to its thick, silvery-grey fur and large, furry paws that act like snowshoes, allowing it to traverse deep snow with ease. Adult lynxes typically weigh between 18 to 24 pounds and measure about 30 to 40 inches in length, sporting tufted ears and a short, bobbed tail with a black tip.

The Canada Lynx primarily preys on the snowshoe hare, and its population numbers often fluctuate in tandem with the availability of this primary food source. Known for its elusive nature, the Canada Lynx is mostly active at night and rests during the day. Conservation efforts have been focused on maintaining the lynx's habitat to ensure its survival, as it's considered vulnerable in certain regions due to habitat loss and competition with other predators.
