Burmese Roofed Turtle
Batagur trivittata
The Burmese roofed turtle is an egg-laying river turtle native to Myanmar. Its hard shell has a raised keel; breeding males develop a bright pale head, unlike the darker females. Zoo and conservation programs maintain assurance populations and breed this heavily depleted species. Housing needs substantial clean swimming water, basking land and suitable sandy nesting space. It is listed in CITES Appendix II, with a zero export quota for wild specimens traded commercially.
