Brown Pricklenape
Acanthosaura lepidogaster
The brown pricklenape is an egg-laying forest dragon from mainland Southeast Asia and southern China. It has brown, leaflike coloration, a dark eye marking and conspicuous spines on the nape and behind the eyes. Specialist dragon keepers provide secure branches, foliage, shaded retreats and drinking opportunities in a ventilated enclosure suited to a forest animal.
It is distinct from the greener Acanthosaura capra. Older broad species accounts may include populations now assigned elsewhere, so retain origin information with the animal's scientific identity.
