Broad-Headed Snake
Hoplocephalus bungaroides
The broad-headed snake is a live-bearing Australian elapid restricted to New South Wales. Its black body with yellow flecks or bands and broad head can resemble a young diamond python. It uses rock shelters and trees and is kept by specialist collections. Housing must offer secure retreats and climbing opportunities with a controlled thermal gradient. Its venom is medically significant; native-wildlife and dangerous-animal permit regimes can restrict possession.
