Blue Spiny Lizard
Sceloporus cyanogenys
The blue spiny lizard is a live-bearing lizard of rocky habitats in southern Texas and northeastern Mexico. Coarse, sharply keeled scales, pale spotting, a dark neck collar and blue coloration on mature males make it recognizable. Experienced hobby keepers provide rock crevices, securely arranged basking surfaces, suitable lighting and a temperature gradient, with varied insect prey.
Females produce live young rather than depositing eggs. Color and brightness vary with sex and condition, so a brownish female still belongs to the same species.
