Black-Breasted Leaf Turtle
Geoemyda spengleri
The black-breasted leaf turtle is a small forest-floor turtle from southern China and northern mainland Southeast Asia. Its brown, leaf-like shell has a toothed rear edge and the underside is largely dark. It lays eggs and is maintained by specialist keepers. Housing needs sheltered terrestrial space with leaf litter, access to shallow water and carefully controlled temperature and moisture. It should not be treated as a permanently aquatic pond turtle.
