Mixed Breed

Mixed breed beefalo are crossbred animals carrying American bison and domestic cattle ancestry without being tied to a single cattle breed line. In practice, the label may cover beefalo descended from Angus, Hereford, Charolais, dairy, or other cattle backgrounds, with varying bison influence. Their appearance can lean either way: a heavier cattle frame, darker bison-like head and shoulders, black or red coats, brown to dark brown shading, or a white-faced pattern from cattle ancestry.

For farms, evaluation is less about a breed name than about percentage, fertility, temperament, calving ease, carcass goals, and how the animals handle local climate and fencing. Beefalo may need stronger working facilities than ordinary cattle, especially if they retain flightiness or horns. Buyers should ask for parentage or herd records when available, and keep health, vaccination, mineral, and pasture management on the cattle side of normal beef production while allowing for bison-derived behavior.

Colors: Black, Black/Brown with White Face, Brown, Dark Brown, Red
