Banggai Island Monitor
Varanus melinus
The Banggai Island monitor, also called the quince monitor, is an egg-laying Indonesian monitor associated with Obi and the Sula islands. Its intense yellow ground color, dark markings and pale unmarked underside distinguish it from several relatives in the mangrove-monitor group.
Experienced monitor keepers and zoological collections provide substantial climbing space, secure retreats, water and a controlled thermal gradient. The familiar trade name is not a reliable statement that an animal originated on Banggai. Keep locality and captive-breeding records.
