Ethiopian Mountain Adder
Bitis parviocula
The Ethiopian mountain adder is a live-bearing Ethiopian viper with a heavy body, small eyes and a bold, leaf-like pattern of dark geometric markings. The Reptile Database also calls this species the Bale Mountains adder; CITES uses that name for the separately described Bitis harenna. It is kept in specialist collections that need secure retreats and carefully managed climate. The venom is medically significant and dangerous-animal permits can apply. It is listed in CITES Appendix I.
