Baird's Rat Snake
Pantherophis bairdi
Baird's rat snake is an egg-laying snake of southwestern Texas and northeastern Mexico. Adults often become gray, yellow-orange or reddish with longitudinal striping, while juveniles look more strongly patterned. Captive animals need secure space to explore, climbing opportunities, snug retreats and clean water, with a controlled thermal gradient. Feed appropriately sized prey and retain geographic provenance for breeding lines.
