Cape Coral Snake
Aspidelaps lubricus
The Cape coral snake is an egg-laying burrowing elapid from southern Africa, including South Africa, Namibia and southern Angola. It has an enlarged digging snout; coloration varies, with orange or reddish bands prominent in the Cape form. Angolan animals are often called Angolan coral snakes. Specialist housing needs secure containment, loose digging substrate and sheltered retreats. Its venom is medically significant, and dangerous-animal licensing can apply.
