Aruba Island Rattlesnake
Crotalus unicolor
The Aruba Island rattlesnake is a live-bearing pit viper restricted to Aruba's dry rocky scrub. Adults are pale gray or gray-brown, with faint diamonds and a darker tail ending in a rattle. Zoo breeding programs maintain this island species. Secure specialist housing needs dry retreats and a controlled thermal gradient. Its venom is medically significant; dangerous-animal laws can require a license, and possession also depends on local wildlife rules. It is listed as threatened under the US Endangered Species Act.
