Glossy Snake
Arizona elegans
The glossy snake is an egg-laying North American snake of dry open country, with smooth shiny scales and a tan or gray ground marked by darker blotches. It occurs from the southwestern and central United States into Mexico, often using loose soils and concealed ground retreats.
Hobby and specialist keepers maintain captive-bred animals. Housing needs a secure enclosure, burrowing opportunities, sheltered retreats and a controlled thermal gradient. Arizona elegans is the species identity; its named regional forms should retain their provenance.
