The Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) is a captivating freshwater species belonging to the cichlid family, native to the calm, slow-moving waters of the Amazon Basin in South America. Recognized for its elegant, triangular body shape and long, flowing fins, the Angelfish is a popular choice among aquarium enthusiasts. These fish display a range of color patterns, typically featuring silver bodies adorned with vertical black stripes, although selective breeding has produced variants in gold, marble, and albino hues.

Angelfish can grow up to 6 inches in length and benefit from spacious, planted aquariums, allowing them to exhibit their natural schooling behavior. Known for their inquisitive nature, they are generally peaceful but can display territorial tendencies, particularly during breeding. This species requires specific water parameters to thrive, preferring a pH range of 6.8 to 7.8 and temperatures between 75 and 82°F (24-28°C). Their omnivorous diet includes flake foods, frozen, and live prey such as brine shrimp and daphnia. With proper care, Angelfish can live for 10 years or more, making them a long-term and visually striking addition to any freshwater aquarium.
