Unclassified Variety
Unclassified variety angelfish are Pterophyllum scalare that show a domestic color or pattern but have not been placed into a recognized aquarium variety. The label can apply to juveniles whose markings have not settled, fish from mixed parentage, imported stock sold under local names, or individuals that fall between familiar labels such as marble, koi, silver, gold, black, blushing, smokey, and zebra. It is a cautious term, not a claim that the fish represents a new strain.
For keepers and sellers, unclassified variety is useful when the fish is healthy and identifiable as an angelfish but the variety name would be speculation. Photographs under normal light, notes on parent fish, and age can help later classification, especially if the fish is used for breeding. Day-to-day care remains the same as for other domestic angelfish: warm clean water, stable pH, tall tank space, peaceful companions, and attention to pair behavior during spawning. Breeders should avoid turning an uncertain label into a marketing name.
