Mixed Variety
Mixed variety angelfish are domestic forms of Pterophyllum scalare whose color, scale, or pattern traits do not fit a single clean variety name. Aquarium angelfish have been selectively bred into silver, marble, koi, gold, black, blushing, pearlscale, zebra, smokey, and other lines, and many fish combine several of those traits. A mixed variety fish may have attractive marbling, partial striping, gold or black areas, or pearlscale texture without matching a breeder's exact strain label.
Aquarists usually manage mixed variety angelfish for health, temperament, and compatibility rather than show-line precision. They still need warm, stable freshwater, vertical swimming room, good filtration, and tankmates that will not nip their fins. Breeders should be cautious with naming: offspring from mixed variety parents can vary widely, and color genes may reveal themselves over several generations. Clear photos, parent notes, and honest sale labels help buyers understand whether they are choosing a display fish, a breeding prospect, or simply an angelfish with mixed domestic ancestry.
