Amur Rat Snake
Elaphe schrenckii
The Amur rat snake is an egg-laying snake of northeastern Asia, including the Russian Far East, Korea and northern China. Typical adults are dark brown or black with pale crossbands and a yellowish underside; young animals are more strongly patterned. It is established in hobby and specialist collections.
Captive housing needs a secure enclosure with climbing routes, sheltered resting places and a controlled thermal gradient appropriate to its temperate origin. Breeding records should distinguish pure stock from captive hybrids.
