Amboina Box Turtle
Cuora amboinensis
The Amboina box turtle is an egg-laying Southeast Asian box turtle of freshwater wetlands. Adults have a dark domed shell, a hinged plastron and pale yellow stripes along the head and neck. It is kept by hobby and specialist collections, but its box-turtle name should not imply an entirely dry enclosure.
Captive planning needs both clean water and accessible sheltered land, appropriate basking conditions and a nesting area. Named geographic forms belong beneath this species rather than representing designer morphs.
