Algerian Sand Gecko
Tropiocolotes steudneri
The Algerian sand gecko is a tiny ground gecko of dry country, with modern records centered east of the Nile in Egypt and Sudan. The common name survives older, broader identifications. Its sandy body has larger dark spots, and it is stockier and shorter-tailed than Tropiocolotes tripolitanus.
Specialist breeders use sealed terrariums with sandy substrate, small shelters and a controlled overhead heat gradient. It eats very small insects, drinks droplets and lays single eggs. Tiny gaps and oversized prey are particular concerns.
