About Happy Hens & Highlands

Happy Hens & Highlands is a working Scottish Highland cattle farm near Bakersville, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. We breed AHCA-registered Scottish Highland cattle with an emphasis on structural correctness, sound genetics, calm dispositions and long-term herd health.

My name is Emily Grace, and my family has called these mountains home for generations. What began in 2014 as a small poultry operation grew into a dedicated Highland breeding program once I fell in love with the breed. My husband, JB, now works alongside me on the farm.

We offer registered breeding stock, show prospects, and quality cattle for hobby farms and conservation grazing, along with frozen semen and embryos available nationwide. Our calves stay with their mothers until they are weaned and ready to leave.

In 2017, Happy Hens & Highlands became the first farm in the United States to offer dedicated Scottish Highland cattle tours. Guests travel from across the country for guided farm visits, photo sessions, painting classes, weddings and elopements, with views of Roan Mountain, Celo Knob and Mount Mitchell.

Looking for Highland cattle? I co-founded HoofnHorn, an online livestock marketplace where breeders across the country list registered Highland cattle and other heritage livestock. It's a great place to start your search: https://www.hoofnhorn.com
