About Von Edelweiss Biewer Terriers

Von Edelweiss Biewer Terriers, run by Anita Anderson in Carlsbad, California, is a small preservation-focused program dedicated to Biewer terriers that meet the AKC breed standard in health, structure, and temperament. Located in San Diego County, about 30 miles north of downtown San Diego, the kennel approaches each pairing deliberately, prioritizing quality over volume.

Health testing is central to the program. Breeding dogs undergo DNA screening for genetic conditions such as Degenerative Myelopathy, OFA certifications for knees, CAER eye exams, and progesterone testing before each breeding. Anita follows Dr. Jean Dodd's vaccination protocol and begins early neurological stimulation and structured socialization with puppies from the first weeks of life, exposing them to household sounds and a variety of people before they leave for their homes.

The program has an active show record. Foundation stud Elvis von Weisse Orchidee, imported from Latvia, earned a Bronze Grand Championship and a national ranking of #5 Biewer terrier in 2022. His son Rider earned Best of Opposite at the BTCA Regional Specialty in both 2024 and 2025, along with a Select Dog award at the National Specialty. In 2024, the young female Nova won the Puppy Sweepstakes at the National Specialty in Orlando, earning the Biewer Terrier Puppy of the Year title.
