Sportingfields raises Maine coon cats in Brooksville, Florida, operating out of a kennel and cattery with roots going back to 1942 and three generations of family involvement. Dionne Butt oversees the Maine coon program, which grew from an already established breeding operation that also includes Whippets and Border Collies. Brooksville sits in Hernando County in west-central Florida, roughly 45 miles north of Tampa.

Health testing is central to the program. Breeding cats are screened with echocardiograms and DNA testing, including evaluation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, before being used in the breeding program. Cats from Sportingfields have earned recognition at TICA-sanctioned competition, with titles that include Best Kitten at the Maine Coon National Congress and Best Long-Haired Cat at a TICA show. The cattery is registered with TICA and focuses on producing show-quality Maine coon cats with sound temperaments.
