Shupp Hill Farms

Shupp Hill Farms raises registered Irish Dexter cattle in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, in Wyoming County about an hour northwest of Scranton. The operation is run by Corey and Esther Read, who returned to Corey's family farm to revive what had been a multi-generational dairy property.

Corey, a U.S. Marine Corps and Army veteran, and Esther transitioned into farming after careers in government and corporate fields, choosing to build a fully registered Dexter cattle herd from the ground up. Seed stock was sourced from six different states to broaden the genetic foundation, with the long-term goal of supplying quality Irish Dexter cattle genetics to homesteaders and producers across the northeast. The herd is managed through a deliberate breeding program, and the farm has invested in updated haying equipment to support cattle nutrition across the region's wet summer seasons.

Conservation is part of the farm's foundation as well. Infrastructure improvements — including a cattle walk to keep animals out of waterways — reflect a commitment to sustainable land stewardship. Shupp Hill Farms also raises registered Dapple Boer goats and Duroc forest-pastured pigs alongside its Dexter cattle program, making it a working diversified livestock farm rooted in the Wyoming County landscape.
