Rocking O Longhorns
Rocking O Longhorns raises Texas longhorn cattle in Lockhart, Texas, about 30 miles south of Austin in the Caldwell County region. The operation is a family affair, started by Curtis Ohlendorf, who grew up on a multi-purpose farm and ranch working crops and livestock before his first encounter with a colorful newborn longhorn calf near Lockhart drew him fully into the breed. His son Ross became part of the program early on, even designing the ranch brand during his middle school years.
The ranch operates under the motto of "Pretty and Productive," reflecting a dual focus on visual appeal and functional cattle traits. Color variety is a defining interest of the program, with the wide range of coat patterns in Texas longhorns being a central draw from the beginning. Selection also considers horn characteristics, body size, mothering ability, and temperament, with the herd developed through pasture breeding using bulls chosen to advance those qualities.
Rocking O Longhorns sells Texas longhorn cattle for sale by private treaty and has placed animals with buyers across a wide range of states, as well as internationally. Cattle from the program are registered, and the ranch assists buyers through the registration process, including branding requirements.
