Reindeer Farm
Reindeer Farm in Palmer, Alaska has raised reindeer since 1987, when founder Tom Williams traveled to Northern Canada to bring back the farm's first herd of 20 animals. The property itself has deep roots in the region — Williams grew up on the land in the 1950s when it operated as a dairy farm, and the transition to reindeer grew out of his family's longstanding appreciation for Alaskan wildlife.
Located about 45 miles northeast of Anchorage in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, the farm keeps its reindeer in an outdoor setting year-round, with the herd living outside through all seasons, including subzero Alaska winters. Calving takes place each spring, and the farm typically closes briefly in April to allow new mothers and their calves time to bond before the warmer months begin.
Reindeer for sale in Alaska are not common, and the farm's multi-decade history with the species gives it a distinctive depth of experience. The herd has been acclimated to Alaska's climate and landscape over many generations, rooted in the same Palmer land that Tom Williams's family has called home for more than 70 years.
