Redwood Llamas, run by Bill Redwood out of Dove Creek, Colorado, has been breeding and working with llamas since the early 1980s, making it one of the longer-running llama operations in the Four Corners region, roughly an hour north of Durango.

Bill first acquired llamas in 1982 to explore the Rocky Mountains, and what began as a small personal herd has grown to well over 100 animals. The breeding program draws on bloodlines sourced from across North America, with the herd's foundation rooted in classic short-wool pack stock. A notable portion of the herd traces back to the llama Clancy, a well-known performance animal whose offspring have consistently passed down traits the operation prizes: athleticism, calm temperament, and physical strength.

Redwood Llamas for sale in Colorado come from a program with a deliberate, long-term approach to genetic diversity. New bloodlines have been brought in from Washington State, Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming, and Canada, among other sources, with the goal of producing animals that are well-suited for demanding backcountry work. Training and conditioning are handled in-house, with daily attention to each animal's development from an early age. The operation has also attracted experienced llama trainers and handlers who contribute to the care and preparation of the herd, reinforcing a culture of hands-on husbandry built over four decades in southwest Colorado.
