Michael West

Michael West is a llama breeder in East Bend, NC, Yadkin County and the Piedmont Triad near Winston-Salem. He has been raising llamas for more than ten years and holds membership in the International Llama Association, with regular health checks and genetic screening on site.

All animals are pasture-raised on rolling fields and receive daily handling to foster calm behavior and ease their introduction to people. The farm began as a small homesteading project and now welcomes occasional educational visits, showcasing the herd’s gentle nature. Michael designs each program to balance animal welfare and community engagement, reflecting a focus on thoughtful care.

Breeding pairs are chosen with attention to temperament and structure, aiming for consistent health and calm dispositions. Each year the herd is shorn under veterinary supervision, with fleece quality suitable for craft and mill projects. Routine parasite checks and dental exams are part of the herd’s preventative approach.
