Jo's Huggable Hedgies

Jo’s Huggable Hedgies is a breeder of African pygmy hedgehogs in Michigan and the Great Lakes region near Detroit. Billiejo Snider has been caring for these small mammals for more than six years and follows guidelines from the Hedgehog Welfare Society to ensure proper health and temperament. The breeder holds membership in the International Hedgehog Association so breeding pairs undergo genetic and wellness screenings. Each hedgie is raised in a warm indoor setting with regular socialization sessions to help them adjust to gentle handling.

Husbandry practices include regular veterinary screenings for common conditions and a diet formulated with high-quality protein and fiber. Enrichment tools such as exercise wheels and hideaway burrows support natural behaviors. Litter training and supervised out-of-enclosure time help maintain hygiene and encourage curiosity. The home-based environment allows for close observation of each hedgehog’s growth and personality, and it fosters a calm atmosphere before they join a new household.
