JF Miniature Donkeys

JF Miniature Donkeys raises miniature Mediterranean donkeys on a nearly 60-acre ranch in Mount Vernon, Washington, in the heart of the Skagit Valley about 60 miles north of Seattle. Owner Julie Jones has been around livestock her entire life, and her path to miniature donkeys began in the late 1990s when an encounter with the breed left a lasting impression.

Jones comes from a Skagit County dairy farming family and holds a background in agricultural economics, having also managed one of the country's leading Arabian horse breeding facilities and raised performance quarter horses with her husband through the mid-1990s. Her first pair of miniature Mediterranean donkeys came from a well-regarded Pacific Northwest farm, and the herd has grown steadily from there.

The ranch is home to a sizable herd that includes jacks, jennets, and geldings across a range of sizes and colors. Conformation, disposition, and pedigree are the core selection criteria for the breeding program, and a number of donkeys from the ranch have gone on to serve organizations that support children with disabilities. Jones has also shown her donkeys at regional and national events, where they have been trained in obstacle courses, barrel racing, and jumping.
