Hartley Hedgehogs & Tenrecs is a breeder of African pygmy hedgehogs in central North Carolina near Charlotte. Melissa Hartley has been caring for hedgehogs for over a decade and follows guidelines set by leading small mammal associations.

Pups and adults live in a home setting where each hedgehog receives daily handling, a balanced diet of high-quality protein and vegetables, and custom habitat enrichment. Living quarters feature temperature control, clean bedding changed weekly and supervised exercise time to support physical and mental well being. Health screenings, routine veterinary checkups and record keeping help ensure new families receive animals with a clear health background.

A focus on early socialization helps pups develop calm temperaments, often noted by adopters when they settle into apartment or household routines. Melissa’s years of experience and patient approach allow her to offer insights on care routines that fit different lifestyles.
