Foster Hill Farm

Foster Hill Farm raises miniature Mediterranean donkeys in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, in the Tolland County hill towns roughly an hour northeast of Hartford. Kim and Karl Milikowski began keeping miniature donkeys in 2008 and launched their breeding program in 2009, making it one of the longer-running miniature donkey programs in the Northeast.

The farm itself carries real history. Karl and Kim purchased the land in 2008 and over the following decade reassembled roughly 120 acres of what was originally the Foster family's 200-year-old farm, preserving parcels that had previously been slated for housing development. Barns were built to complement the historic character of the surrounding property, and land preservation remains a stated priority.

The herd typically numbers around 30 or more donkeys of all ages, with the program standing several jacks and producing animals in a range of colors including reds, spots, grays, and blacks. Bloodlines have been developed from breeders across the United States and Canada. Every animal is handled daily, registered, and microchipped, and the farm relies on a group of regular volunteers to help socialize foals. All donkeys have continuous open access to stalls and pastures and receive routine hoof care, vaccinations, and worming.
