F. E. Baxter

F. E. Baxter is a co-founder of Southwest Llama Rescue, Inc. (SWLR), operating out of Kerrville, Texas, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country roughly an hour northwest of San Antonio. Baxter serves as Treasurer and manages the Kerrville Sanctuary, where llamas in need of ongoing care due to age or health concerns find a long-term home.

Southwest Llama Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on the rescue, rehabilitation, training, and re-homing of llamas and alpacas across the western United States. The organization has been a member of the Rocky Mountain Llama and Alpaca Association since 2002, and its service area spans states west of the Mississippi, from Texas to California and Oregon. Over the course of its work, SWLR has taken in more than 500 llamas and alpacas and facilitated re-homing for approximately 400 of them.

Animals arriving at the sanctuary receive vaccinations, gelding for intact males, fighting-teeth trimming, and individualized training before placement. Those seeking llamas for adoption in Texas can look to the Kerrville Sanctuary, where a facilities review and a non-breeding placement contract are part of every adoption. Fostering and sponsorship of elderly or unadoptable llamas are also available through the program.
