Brookhaven Labradors

Brookhaven Labradors, run by Sharlene Pitman in King George, Virginia, focuses on English-type Labrador retriever puppies bred to the AKC breed standard. The kennel sits about 30 minutes east of Fredericksburg, near the entrance to the Northern Neck region.

Active since 2004, the program has produced dogs earning conformation championships, Canine Good Citizen certifications, junior hunter titles, Rally and obedience titles, nosework and dock diving titles, and therapy dog designations. Sharlene holds an AKC approval as a conformation judge for Labrador retrievers and junior showmanship, and Brookhaven carries AKC Breeder of Merit Bronze designation. The kennel is also a member of the Labrador Retriever Club, Inc., the AKC's parent club for the breed.

Health testing is a central part of the program. All breeding dogs are cleared through OFA for hips and elbows, OFA heart clearance by Color Doppler echocardiogram, and CERF eye exam, with additional genetic disease panels run on each dog. Puppies are raised inside the home from birth.
