Appalachian Farmstead, run by Dennis Vonderfecht, raises miniature Mediterranean donkeys in Knoxville, Tennessee, in the heart of East Tennessee about 100 miles northeast of Chattanooga.

The program traces its roots to an initial purchase of six miniature Mediterranean donkeys at the Cheers for Ears Show in Lexington, Virginia, followed by additional stock from Country Music Miniature Donkeys in Texas. Since 2004, the farm has bred, raised, and shown halter champion miniature Mediterranean donkeys, earning multiple national championships with the NMDA, ACOSA, and NASMDA. Among the farm's most decorated animals is Frontier Legend's Cinna, a jennet who accumulated an extraordinary show record across nearly a decade of competition, including multiple Best of Breed titles and national champion honors.

Appalachian Farmstead runs a deliberately small herd each year, keeping annual foal numbers limited so that individual attention to conformation, pedigree, and temperament remains the program's defining characteristic.
