Unclassified Morph

Unclassified morph Argentine black and white tegu describes a Salvator merianae whose color or pattern does not have a confirmed captive morph label. Young tegus can change contrast as they grow, and adult pattern can vary by line, lighting, shed cycle, and condition. A lizard with extra white, muted black, bluish tone, or atypical markings may be interesting, but unclassified is the safer label when parentage and breeder terminology are missing.

For keepers, the classification should not distract from the animal's needs as a large tegu. Housing must allow secure movement, deep substrate or retreat space, high basking temperatures, ultraviolet lighting, and humidity that supports healthy shedding. Handling should be steady and respectful, especially around feeding and seasonal behavior. If the tegu is sold or bred, photos at different ages and any source records should travel with it. Honest unclassified labeling protects buyers from assuming a high-value morph that has not been demonstrated.
