Mixed Morph

Mixed morph Argentine black and white tegus are Salvator merianae from captive lines where color or pattern traits have been combined, selected, or recorded imprecisely. The species is a large South American lizard with a strong build, intelligent behavior, and the familiar black-and-white banded or speckled look. Captive morph language may mention high white, blue, albino, red-influenced, or normal-type traits, but a mixed morph label means the animal is not being presented as one clean, verified line.

Tegu ownership is a substantial commitment regardless of morph. Adults need large secure enclosures, strong basking heat, ultraviolet lighting, humidity control, and a varied omnivorous diet. Temperament depends on age, handling, season, and individual history, not color alone. Breeders and buyers should ask what traits are actually known from the parents and which are guesses based on appearance. In areas where tegus are regulated because of escape or invasive risk, the legal and containment questions are more important than the morph name.
